I have a new friend!

It has been so long since I posted anything, I almost forgot my login! Life never seems to slow down. I am trying to just hold on and enjoy the journey. Morgan helps us all enjoy life at our house so I thought I would share a silly story about her.

As I was tucking her into bed she announced, “I have a new friend.” I told her I was happy for her and asked what her name is. She replied, “Her name is Mindy Stole but she didn’t steal anything. Sometimes she just says ‘My name is Mindy Stole’ but she doesn’t even steal anything. That’s just her name.”

I stood there, staring at my daughter, not knowing what to say. Then I laughed and hugged her and told her I loved her. Her simple way of thinking always brings a smile to my face.

My kid was on the news!

After the recent, disturbing report from AFHS it was nice to hear something good. Brittany’s computer teacher was honored with the Teacher of the Year award by a local news channel. It’s reassuring to know there are still teachers out there that care about the kids and want to teach them. Brit was so nervous during the interview but she did a good job.

Way to go Mr. Winters and AFHS!

What's wrong with your face?

Morgan has had a rash on her face since around Thanksgiving. It would start to get better and then flare up again. We tried every over-the-counter treatment we could think of (even bag balm) but nothing seemed to work.

I finally made a doctor appointment. When the nurse practitioner said “Molluscum Contagiosum” my mind flashed to a scene from Harry Potter. She explained that it was a viral infection on the skin that is very contagious and could only be properly diagnosed by a dermatologist.

After a trip to the dermatologist I was relieved that he didn’t feel it was the viral infection. He called it “Atopic Dermatitis” and explained that it’s basically a bad case of eczema. The bad news – a tube of non-steroid cream to treat it for two weeks cost about $25. The good news – he found enough samples in his office that we didn’t have to get the prescription filled.

Even better news – after just a few days Morgan’s face looks so much better. The redness and the rash are going away. It still itches sometimes but it’s getting better.

It has been a while since we have gone to the doctor so it was time for something.
