In the Beginning

Scott and I spent Saturday picking up lumber and supplies to begin our garage remodel project. My friend’s brother works at a lumber supply store and he helped us get a screaming deal. We had to order the window but it should be here by the time we get back from the coast. We did, however, pick up a nice fire door for about half the cost.

I never knew I could be so excited to buy sheetrock but my little heart skipped a beat as they loaded it into the trailer for us. I was so happy that I let Scott take me to lunch!

So, as soon as we get back from relaxing on the beach we will be busy working on our house.

Ah Summer!

I couldn’t resist taking a picture of my three
children eating ice cream on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
The weather is actually getting warmer!

Campout

This weekend was our Ward campout. Our neighbor has the best “campground” with lots of room for tents, trailers, games, and most importantly EATING. They have a covered pavilion, outdoor restroom with flushing toilet, and a huge pasture. Brittany took the tent over and camped out with her friend while the rest of us came home for the night. Zane and I have both been sick and I knew we wouldn’t get any rest if we stayed there. But we went back in the morning for breakfast and more fun.

Zane enjoyed the horse drawn wagon ride because he got to help drive the enormous horses. Morgan’s favorite event was the giant water slide – even though the wind made it ice cold. And Brittany loved the Death by Chocolate cake and frog hunting late at night. We had Dutch oven lasagna for dinner which was delicious!
It was a great time!

SUMMER!

It feels like FALL outside with temperatures in the 40s and wind gusts up to 50 mph. So, we are having SUMMER inside. I cranked up the thermostat to 80, turned on the fan, mixed up some lemonade, and filled the bathtub. After a “swim” in the tub the kids lounged on their towels, sipping lemonade. We lathered on the banana-coconut lotion so we smell like SUMMER. And there is probably enough sand on the floor that we could even build a sandcastle. (I couldn't get Brittany to sit on a towel with the rest of the kids.)

We are having SUMMER!

He's Back!

Yesterday Zane was still not feeling well. In fact, he wouldn’t eat or drink anything and he just wanted to be held. He slept most of the morning. He has been sick since Friday so I called the doctor to see if they could get him in.

The doctor checked his ears and informed me that the left ear drum was red and swollen – about to burst. He never complained about his ear and never had a fever. I was thinking dehydration not ear infection. But I was glad they could tell me what was wrong with him.

After one dose of antibiotics he is bouncing back. This morning he was wrestling Morgan and back to his cheerful self. (I did take advantage of his docile state and cut his hair on Saturday. It’s not the best hair cut he has had but he looks tons better.)I am so glad that he is feeling better finally!

Lessons Learned from Motherhood

This is a silly picture that Morgan took. Zane has been sick this weekend and I have enjoyed the snuggle time. I love my busy boy but I also love to just hold him.

I also wanted to share something I started on Mothers Day that I call "Lessons Learned from Motherhood." I was impressed with how quickly I came up with a long list of things that I have learned. Here are just a few.

~ Being a mother is the most difficult, lowest paid job and yet the most rewarding.

~ It seems they will be little forever and then one day you wake up and they are asking for the keys to the car. Enjoy them while they are young.

~ Dolls will always be naked, no matter how many outfits they have.

~ The best toy to play with is the one someone else has.

~ A freshly mopped floor is best for spilling milk on.

~ A teenage daughter is better than a full length mirror.

How do you fix a toilet?

Our first night in our new house was filled with emotions. We were excited, scared, nervous, and tired. As with all new places, there were new sounds to get used to. We lay in our bed, in our new room, that first night and I realized one of the sounds was our new toilet running. I told Scott that would be the first thing to be fixed. He muttered something as he drifted off to sleep, leaving me to listen to the sounds alone.

Over the past two years, Scott has tweaked and fiddled with the toilet. It would work fine and then suddenly it would run constantly again. I bought a kit to replace everything inside the tank. I figured it had been tweaked long enough and just needed to be retired. Scott put the kit up in the cupboard and continued to tweak.

Then, Saturday morning I found Scott in the garage not really doing anything. I asked him if he thought I would need anything other than a Phillips screwdriver to change out the inside parts on the toilet. He fixed the toilet that afternoon.

I wonder if my Phillips screwdriver could motivate him to fix a couple more things? Hummmm. . .

Snow White?

I don't know how accurate this is. . .
